About

Hi! I'm Bobby

When I was in school, I couldn't decide whether I wanted to do technology or design. I considered doing graphic design or 3D animation, but I chose to pursue technology. Now, I've come full circle and figured how to do both with data science and data visualization.

My whole life I've loved learning something new. When I find something to learn, I can't get enough, which leads me down all sorts of fun rabbit trails or even strands me on a grocery aisle for an hour as I research. As hybrid disciplines, data science and data visualization combine many areas of knowledge, which always gives me something to learn. So far I've studied:

  • Machine Learning
  • Deep Learning
  • Forecasting
  • Optimization
  • Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Data Wrangling
  • Python & R Development
  • Visual Psychology
  • Color Theory
  • Front-End Web Development
  • Data Storage & Querying

...and I've barely scratched the surface.

A Little About Me

After studying computer science at Stanford, I joined the Army as a communications officer. My teams and I helped install, operate, and maintain equipment that helped people communicate with voice or data. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to complete Ranger School, serve in the Ranger Regiment, and lead communications for a Joint Taskforce in Iraq.

After serving five years on active duty, I moved to Branson, MO to study the Bible for a year. Then I moved back to Dallas, TX and worked at Credera as an IT infrastructure consultant, where I focused on Microsoft infrastructure services and technology. I found a niche in automation, mostly with PowerShell scripting.

After being a consultant, I helped build a healthcare startup, Take Command, where I learned how to run a business. I also submitted way too many health insurance applications, which is less fun than it sounds. There I started my foray into data analytics when I built their data platform and used PowerBI to provide data insights. I next joined a financial services company, Triumph Financial, where I helped assess strategic projects and used my automation and data skills to help with other projects.

In between Take Command and Triumph, I started my masters in data science at Georgia Tech. I have loved studying and learning many data science disciplines, but none more than visualization. I'm excited to use everything I've learned to create beautiful ways to communicate data.

Experience

Organizations I've had the privilege to work with.

Triumph Financial

2022 – 2023

As a TriumphX Labs Data Analyst, I empowered Triumph's C-level leadership to make revenue-affecting decisions by delivering actionable insights and compelling data visualizations. I conducted comprehensive strategic assessments on projects each worth over $20 million in annual revenue, including planning for a blockchain-based financial system with smart contracts. I also implemented automated solutions across multiple teams, streamlining processes and generating time savings of over 50 hours per month.

Take Command

2017 – 2021

As the Data Operations Principal, I established this pioneering data role, spearheading the company's transition into a data-driven environment. I developed and deployed Take Command's advanced analytics platform, seamlessly integrating data from diverse cloud services, transforming and loading it, and delivering comprehensive insights across all business units.

I enriched the leadership team's access to actionable data, enabling informed and prompt decision-making. I collaborated with each department to develop mission-critical systems, tools, and data analysis methodologies, enhancing overall operational efficiency and performance.

As the Director of Operations, I led Operations for Take Command as it grew over 1000% in revenue, clients, and employees over 3 years. I expanded the insurance sales footprint from 14 states to all 50 states + DC, and I increased our insurance sales fulfillment capabilities to support the increased demand. Growing from a team of 4 when I joined, I performed nearly every role and helped each department scale with the new growth.

Credera

2012 – 2017

As a Senior Infrastructure Consultant, I partnered with companies to solve their toughest challenges using a variety of technologies, with a focus on Microsoft infrastructure. I specialized in automation and scripting and became Credera's leading expert on PowerShell.

United States Army

2006 – 2011

As the Battalion Signal Officer (S6) for the Regimental Special Troops Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, I managed all information technology and communication systems within the Battalion. I also served as the network administrator and Information Assurance Security Officer on four different networks and advised the commander on communications issues in support Joint Special Operations combat missions in two theaters.

As the Operations Officer for the Ranger Communications Company, 75th Ranger Regiment, I planned, coordinated, and supervised the integration of Special Operations and conventional communications systems in support of Ranger combat operations, deployments, and exercises for 57 Airborne Ranger Soldiers, capable of deploying worldwide in less than 18 hours.

As the Executive Officer for the 362nd and then 275th Signal Companies, 41st Signal Battalion, I managed logistics, operations, and training for over 100 U.S. and Korean Soldiers and civilians and over $100 million of equipment providing strategic communications and information services to customers over a 36,000-square-kilometer area in support of U.S. Forces Korea.
